Temporary suspension of campus visits, tours and events
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, NIU has suspended public on-campus events, including campus visits and tours, until further notice. In addition, the Admission Office in Williston Hall is closed to all visitors until further notice. We are excited to connect with you online. See our visit options for virtual information sessions, appointments and tours. We are also standing by, ready to assist via phone and email. Please contact email@example.com or 815-753-0446.
Groups of 10 or more (e.g., middle school or high school classes, social clubs, etc.) are welcome to visit NIU's campus through a scheduled group campus visit. Group visits include a campus tour, admission presentation, current student Q&A, and one pre-arranged special presentation. These arrangements can be made by submitting the online visit request form. Unless there are unusual circumstances, groups of fewer than 10 are best served by participating in one of our regular campus visits on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. See campus visits.
Feel free to contact us at 815-753-0209 with any questions you may have about scheduling a group visit.
We ask for your assistance in helping make your campus visit a positive experience for both you and your students by adequately preparing them for the visit. The most effective visits are those in which students show genuine interest by being attentive to their tour guide and prepared with questions. We appreciate your help in making the most of your visit to NIU.
Large group campus visits are available Tuesday-Friday during the academic year and select weekdays during the summer. Visit times are:
Morning campus visit: 9:45 a.m. - noon
Afternoon campus visit: 11:45 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Large groups should make arrangements at least four weeks in advance. Generally, only one group can be accommodated per day. Visits are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis, and many groups arrange visits months in advance.
Scheduling preference will be given to groups whose students are in 9th grade and above. As availability permits, tours will be given to groups whose students are in 8th grade and below.
Group visits include a campus tour, admission presentation, current student Q&A, and one pre-arranged special presentation.
Please contact us no fewer than three days before your visit to confirm your schedule and number of attendees.
Cancellation Notice: If your visit needs to be canceled, it is essential that you notify us at least three days in advance for rescheduling purposes. Failure to do so may limit future scheduling availability for your organization.
Groups of 40 or more will receive a guided bus tour on their own bus with no more than two buses per group.
Walking tours typically last 75 minutes. Participants should be prepared to walk outside, dress for the weather and be able to climb several flights of stairs. Tours can be modified to accommodate participants with disabilities.
Students on tours must be accompanied by teachers or adult group leaders (at least one adult per 10 students) to ensure that students maintain good order, decorum and attentiveness.
Groups wishing to eat lunch in a dining hall during their visit, have the following option:
Purchase lunch in Neptune Dining Hall ($7 per person)
