Tuition and Fees
General fees and 15+ credit hours/semester annually.
Room and Board
Annual cost for a double room in Stevenson Hall and the Huskie Block 12 meal plan and $100 Dining Dollars per semester. Other rooming options are available.
Total
Annual cost of tuition, fees, room and board for fall and spring semesters.
Note: These rates do not include student health insurance of $1,296.00 per semester. This is a mandatory fee for students who do not otherwise have coverage. Students interested in Computer Science, Engineering and Nursing majors will have a higher per-hour and full-time tuition rate.
One Set Rate
With our truth-in-tuition policy, you’ll get the same fixed tuition rate for four continuous years, whether you live in Illinois or another state.
Free Credit Hours
There’s no charge for credit hours you take above 12 in the fall or spring semester. Take classes for free and graduate sooner!
Payment Flexibility
Enroll in the Huskie Installment Plan to spread your payments out over the semester instead of making one large payment.
NIU Invests in You
More than 80% of our undergraduates receive support paying for college. To explore your options, visit the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office.
Scholarship Consideration
When you apply to NIU, we’ll automatically consider you for a renewable merit scholarship, a form of financial aid you don’t have to pay back.
