Robin Diamzon is an Admissions Counselor, or Tagapayo sa Pagpasok in his native Tagalog, and proud double alum of NIU, where he earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees. Born in Manila, Philippines, and now resides in Homer Glen, Illinois, Robin brings a global perspective and a deeply personal understanding of the college journey to his work with students and families. He holds a bachelor’s degree in sport management) and a master’s in digital marketing, experience that shapes his student-centered approach to admissions counseling.
Having once been the student asking questions and seeking guidance himself, Robin values the experience of now being a source of support and encouragement for others. “Having come full circle of being the student who asks for help to the person who now provides that support is always a cool pondering moment for me,” he says. And he notes, listening closely to students’ stories and passions is key to helping them envision their future and feel confident in their next steps.
Robin often emphasizes the importance of getting involved on campus, crediting student engagement and meaningful relationships as transformative parts of his own college experience. These connections, he believes, are what help students grow personally, professionally, and academically. A first-generation college student in the United States, Robin’s favorite message to prospective students is simple but powerful: “you’re always one email away from success!”
